Every purchase has a social, economic, cultural, and environmental impact. Social procurement is about using your existing purchasing to capture those impacts to achieve overarching institutional, governmental, or individual goals that help shape inclusive, vibrant and healthy communities.

With the interest in social procurement increasing across Canada, many public buyers wonder how to implement it in their organizations. In this session, Buy Social Canada and Blakes will share information and answer questions on how public buyers can implement social procurement into all types of procurement processes, all while staying within the trade agreement obligations. Chris Allen,

Chris started his procurement journey in the private sector buying steel and related products for the fabrication of Material Handling equipment, then moving on to the Automotive industry as an MRO buyer, and finally into purchasing for the Aircraft industry. He made the jump into public procurement in 2016 and spent the next six years with the City of Peterborough. In April 2022, he took on the role of Purchasing Administrator for the City of Peterborough. Being employed in public procurement has provided many learning opportunities. One that really impacted his practice was the Lean Six Sigma program, and as a result, he thrives on making improvements within the procurement process. His newest focus is on responsible purchasing practices. He is working hard to incorporate both Social Procurement and Circular Procurement practices into the City's practices.
