Join us for OPBA Talks - OAA Contracts: Public Procurement: Using Standard Form Contracts for Architectural Services

A foundational piece for any good business relationship, a well-drafted standard contract provides clarity around expectations, roles and responsibilities, and scope. Appropriately crafted, it helps avoid misunderstandings and disputes that can sour even the best-intended projects, protecting the interests of all parties involved. For architectural services, the OAA Contract Suite 2021 is designed to do just that.

Comprising free, downloadable contract templates and guides, this Suite has been designed and developed in consultation with groups representing owners, contractors, consultants, architects, and construction law specialists. These transparent, balanced documents reflect the OAA’s mandate to regulate the practice of architecture with the public interest foremost in mind.

The OAA continues to offer its contracts for free. The OAA Contract Suite has been revamped to reflect requests from procurement groups, updates to standard construction contracts, as well as lessons learned from reviewing RFPs and answering questions posed to the OAA’s Practice Advisory Services.

Join this informative webinar for an introduction to the OAA as a regulator, learn about the OAA Contract Suite 2021 and its guides, and learn about the Association’s various free tools and resources available to OPBA members to help your procurement processes and project managers with upcoming RFPs.

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn about the role and mandate of the Ontario Association of Architects as a regulator (i.e. protection of the public), how it relates to other regulated professions in Ontario (lawyers, engineers, dentists, etc), and how it differs from other industry organizations.
2. Learn about the OAA’s Practice Advisory Services and how it can support your organization in the preparation of RFPs, competitions, and procurement (including qualifications-based selection or QBS).
3. Learn about the OAA Contract Suite 2021 and its guides, including their organizational structure, the process to their creation, and how various industry stakeholders contributed.
4. Gain additional insights on key themes that should be considered when preparing an RFP for architectural services, as well as other free resources on the OAA Website.
