This session will discuss the use of public procurement policy to advance diversity goals in the procurement of engineering services. Specifically, we will share findings from a study funded by Women and Gender Equity Canada (WAGE) and discuss ways in which public procurement policy can support increased career opportunities for women and other equity-seeking groups in consulting engineering and the engineering profession. Discussion includes using Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) as a data-supported tool in moving EDI agendas forward. QBS protects the public interest over the life cycle of the project, including design, construction, operations, maintenance and eventual upgrading or de-commissioning. QBS accommodates the application of equity, diversity, and inclusion criteria as part of the qualifications of the supplier.
