Course Description
Public procurement decisions affect service delivery, financial stewardship, organizational risk and public trust. Elected officials and senior leaders play an important governance and oversight role, even when they are not directly involved in the procurement process.
This practical online course provides the foundational knowledge leaders need to understand procurement responsibilities, recognize common risks, ask better questions and support fair, transparent and defensible decision-making.
Who Should Register
This course is designed for elected officials, chief administrative officers, city managers, executive leadership teams, department directors and other senior non-procurement leaders who participate in governance, oversight, budgeting or major organizational decisions.

Public Procurement in a Public Agency
Explore the purpose of public procurement and the principles of openness, fairness, transparency, accountability, value for money and stewardship of public funds.
Processes and Frameworks of Public Procurement
Gain an overview of procurement methods, the procurement cycle, governance frameworks, delegated authority, supporting tools and emerging procurement trends.
The Role of Elected Officials and Public Leaders
Understand the responsibilities of elected officials, senior administrators and procurement professionals, including the boundary between governance and administration.
Political Influence and Its Impact on Public Procurement
Examine how political or organizational influence can affect procurement, common governance risks and practices that help protect process integrity.
Each module includes practical examples, interactive activities and a knowledge check. Participants who complete all four modules, the required knowledge checks and the course survey will receive a course certificate.

For a 5-user package, the primary registrant will be contacted for the names and email addresses of the additional participants. Each participant requires a unique email address to receive individual Brightspace access.
Course Access
Course access instructions will be sent by email after registration has been processed. Each participant will have six months from the date of purchase to complete the course.
Refund and Transfer Policy
Registrations are non-refundable; however, course access may be transferred to another participant within the same organization.
